Accommodation
Description
Perfectly formed for two and positively oozing tranquillity Maros Spitaki sits in a veritable Garden of Eden screened by high hedges from the only neighbouring house.
Beyond the house, a flower bordered path, some 80 m in length makes its way between avocados, kiwi fruit, pomegranates and kumquats as well as orange and lemon trees. Stone tables and benches are located in shady spots around the garden and there's even a couple of swings for the young at heart.
Apart from fruit trees, Yiannis, the owner keeps chickens in an outhouse in the garden and there are also some itinerant ducks who wander off into the orange groves during the day and return at night to boast to the chickens of their exploits.
Please bear in mind that Yiannis will call in every few days to tend to his livestock, but if you like going native and prefer the world of nature to human kind, Maro's little house is definitely an experience too good to miss.
Location
No more than 15 minutes by car from bustling Chania harbour and a 5 to 10 minute drive across country to the sandy beach at Kalamaki, Varipetro, the local village, boasts no more than a bakery, a couple of small shops selling basic necessities and a little cafenion. There are nevertheless some very good tavernas close at hand, in the nearby villages of Galatas and Daratsos approx 5 - 8 kms away.

This is a place for nature lovers and for those looking for a high level of quiet and seclusion. The beautiful roses and bougainvillea, the orchards of fruit trees, the rooftop sunrise and sunset views, the amazing pool, the chickens and visiting cats all added to our sense of delight and contentment at Maros Spitaki. We spent our days playing backgammon at a shady table, or floating in the pool, or conversing with the chickens. The kitchen is well equipped, the house is clean and comfortable, the gardens are obviously tended with love.
This property is perfect for a couple who wants to connect and recharge, and escape from the hectic outside world. We only stayed 5 nights, but are already planning a longer return trip. There is plenty to do within a short drive (we loved the botanical garden, especially), although in truth, every time we left, we couldn't wait to return to our little oasis. Thank you to the owners for sharing this very special place. And thank you to Freelance Villas and the Crete team for your excellent communication and service. |

Secluded, surrounded by citrus groves and there is a lovely pool which we had all to ourselves during our 2 week stay. It is an ideal location for exploring the whole Chania region- all the roads are in outstanding condition and the drives through the mountains were spectacular. We were very close to the Botanic Gardens which we visited 4 times as they have a great restaurant.

We really enjoyed returning to the peace & tranquility of Maros Spitaki. All the usual local amenities were in tact and indeed Galatas looked better than before with more shops open.

My second stay at Maro's Spitaki, and both were great. Liked the large plot, colourful flowers and ripe fruit. Really well placed for Chania, trips through the mountains and elsewhere.
